Why Torch candle Refills are made with Coconut wax
It all begins with an idea.
Candle refills are not regular jar candles. Nor are they pillar candles, which you can burn on their own. This is why factors that are usually really important for typical candles don’t work well for refills… like how well the wax adheres to the vessel - we don’t want it to adhere so it can be easily refilled :)
When researching different waxes, we wanted a renewable, vegan wax that was gentler on the planet and was suitable for refills.
So, when choosing our wax we tested LOTS: coconut wax, soy wax and paraffin wax. Out of all, coconut wax was by far superior and why we chose it for TORCH. Learn more why below:
Sustainability
The #1 reason we chose coconut wax is sustainability. Coconuts are a high-yield crop and don't require much farmland to grow, unlike soy farms which lead to deforestation.
Brilliant Hot Throw
Hot throw is the fragrance a candle emits as it burns. Alternatively, cold throw is the fragrance a candle emits when it is NOT lit. Coconut wax offers superb fragrance throw whether it is lit or not. Obviously, this was a very important factor because we want to offer the best quality to our customers.
Slow Burn
Coconut wax burns slower than other waxes, which means you can enjoy our candles for longer. By comparison, paraffin wax (i.e. non-renewable fossil fuel product) burns very quickly. 20%-30% faster to be more precise. Mass-produced candles are commonly made with low-cost paraffin wax because they offer a great hot throw. The trade-off is that they don't last nearly as long as they should, and they create excess soot. Low-cost paraffin is also a strong contributor to migraines and throwing toxins into the air.
